Late Update

Oh man, have I been slacking...So bad. Nothing exciting to report though. Law school is kicking my ass but I am definitely kicking back!!

Got my first final for the semester in 10 days and will be done in 17 total --- can u tell I am counting it down like crazy!!

Law School though is a tricky place...I came here not knowing anything thinking I would meet a lot of people and make a lot of new friends, but in reality I think I have only 1 or 2 new friends that I actually trust and respect. Everyone else is so competitive and moral-less that it makes you not even want to speak to them. Because in law school we are all graded on a curve with each other, no one wants to help anyone because the better people in your class do, the more work you have to do to be better than them. It's like being back in the jungle, fighting for survival. Anyone that you know is remotely close to your intelligence level is an enemy that is out to eat you alive. Esp now that we already sort of have some grades in from the 1st semester, everyone knows who knows what. Egos are even LARGER than before (I didnt even know that was possible).

Lesson from this is: Play the Game or you lose. Sorry to reference the Hunger Games [EVERYONE should see or read that] but you either play along or you die. Or you play along but remember throughout the entire time who you are and DONT forget your morals. Eat the poison berries if you have to, if you need to make a point, but dont just join the blood-thirsty vulctures that are law students, or whatever else you are dealing with in life. Dont forget that you are your toughest critic and can you really look at yourself in the mirror if you are the reason someone else's life is a fuck up? if the answer to that is Yes, THEN STOP READING MY BLOG. YOU ARE A DOUCHE. Otherwise, reflect...and then continue to do you, cause in the end I know it will be worth it. There are other people like you that havent forgotten the difference between right and wrong...it's hard to find them but dont give up looking!!

Enough deep shit for today. Now go watch the movie or read the book! Learn something today. I'm out to study for finals...be back soon. This time I promise.

  1. I totally understand the competition aspect of school messing with the friendship aspect and its really sad. I did a speech on my we shouldnt have grades in schools and I really think the whole education system would be better if we weren't fighting tooth and nail with our classmates...itd make for a better environment at least..

Anyways, haven't seen Hunger Games yet but now I feel like I should..

    1. Can you post some of your findings on this topic? Were you analyzing removing grading completely or grading based on other's performance?

    2. Some of the top law schools actually have gotten rid of the grading system including Stanford and Yale (http://www.insidehighered.com/news/2008/06/02/stanford). Harvard is thinking about making a change.

I was analyzing removing grades completely and having a written evaluation system that provides more feedback as well as using students sample work in e-portfolios instead of GPA's and standardized test scores determining your future. But grades based on a curve should be the first to be tossed, and then other changes to the education system that are more drastic can follow suit.

  2. Couldn't have put it better myself.
But you know, LIFE itself is a competition and you just can't trust to depend on others. It's sad but it's the truth. :/

Anyways, GREAT blog post today and I hope you DO actually come back soon! :)
